For awhile I’ve been wanting to do more for props and costume making, so during these cold winter months when I can’t get model kits painted I might as well have a go at this right?

The models are modified versions of what I believe are ripped models from DoWII, the hoster never specified, I cleaned them up and made them into something that can actually be worn.

Pepakura Design was used to generate and print the patterns after doign the layout of my 3D model

Bluuuuuuuuuuugh…….

I just wanted to pop in and say I’m sorry for being so inactive, I have plans, lots of them, I’ve got a huge ass backlog of Gunpla and such, just that in my current setup I can really only do one type of “thing” at a time. I’m looking into ways to fix this but I don’t have a lot in the way of options.

So lately I’ve been working with LEGO a lot, like a lot, if you guys are on Flickr you can hit me up here;

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ok_studios/

A few of my notable projects of late;

Grey Knight Strike Cruiser

Mobile Frame Zero Company and assorted doodads

Also in terms of big things that recently happened there is Planetary Annihilation;

Planetary Annihilation Kickstarter Video

The Kickstarter is done(raised over 2 Million) so in less than a year from now, I’ll be able to crash rocket powered asteroids into things, how cool is that eh?

And to top if off it’ll be Mod-able, just like the Supreme Commander(that several of the Staff at Uber worked on) so that means I’ll be modding it as well, I’ve already done some studying and such, I’ve recreated the Commander as seen in the video;

And Updated a few units from BlackOps:Unleashed as well;

So I’ve been pretty busy all round, This weekend I’m crossing the border to hit up BrickCon in Seattle, should be lots of fun!

So I hope I get the chance to update here a bit more, in the mean time I’ll prolly try to drop in the occasional LEGO or 3D things to keep it from getting too quiet around here again.

The stupid nerds from Penny Arcade made a Kickstarter asking for a quarter of a million dollars in funding for an already hugely popular webcomic, promising to take the banner ads off their website if they reach the goal. Kickstarter exists to help fund the projects of people who are unknown, not to help established, successful businesses make slight changes to their financial structure while continuing to offer the same exact service. It overshadows the projects of people who actually need the funding and arguably violates the Kickstarter guidelines because it’s not “kickstarting” anything at all.
That’s not even getting into the incredibly lazy and formulaic comic these pieces of shit create, relying on predictable references to whatever video game just came out and little else. These guys don’t deserve whatever they make from merchandise sales or ad revenue as it is, yet they have the nerve to ask for charity to fix the non-issue of having easily-blockable ads on their website. Jesus fucking christ
I don’t think it’ll do anything, but do me a favor and report this project at the bottom of the page. Best case scenario, it’ll get taken down and the Penny Arcade manchildren will have a public meltdown

All I’m gonna say is: amazing how this is actually getting backed, isn’t it? Look guys, bitch all you want, I’m neither for or against it, but PA is making NO ONE pledge this money. People apparently want to. So they are. Sure, Penny Arcade shouldn’t have made a kickstarter page to begin with, and I do think it technically violates the rules, so you’re made at them for that. But what about the people actually pledging money to this? They’re not blameless, either. Rabid fans, maybe, but not blameless.
I also wouldn’t doubt for a second that most of people who have pledged for this, it’s their first and only time ever backing a project. It’s not like Kickstarter has a limited amount of pedge bux to be handed out each day. I doubt PA getting involved with all this will “damage” the visibility or adoption rate of other needy projects.

Frankly, I don’t see how this is a problem at all, Lets look at the semi-recent Double Fine Kickstarter, where they managed to raise 2.5 MILLION dollars. And DoubleFine isn’t exactly a small studio either, but you know why I’m okay with that? Because Shortly after the project was successful I read an article(I can’t find it off hand right now, sorry) that stated not only did the DF-KS bring in new backers by the thousands, but a goodly portion of those new backers went on to back other projects(predominately other games, but that is their interest) and while now that it’s months and months beyond that, I don’t know how it’s panned out, but surely you aren’t going to tell me that new backers are a bad thing? Sure they might not have joined for those “Unknown” people, but that’s just it, they’re Unknown, and unless they really ramped up some kind of actual marketing to get known, they’ll stay unknown too. But once someone overcomes the “fear” of backing their first project, they are more likely to go on and back other projects…..these tend to be those unknowns.
Hate on the bigger companies and bigger Kickerstarter projects all you want, just realize that it’s because of these people with big audiences are using or talking about Crowdfunding that are the big reason for it’s recent growth. And the thing is, these big influential people have huge marketing power, I’ve found more than a few projects just from mentions via PennyArcade that I might not have found otherwise, and these bring in even more people that are interested in that project, and could potentially become interested in other projects too.
As someone who plans to start a Kickstarter within the year, I’m all for having a bigger audience, all that means is that I’m more likely to have people who are interested in backing my project.

Preparing for my Sandrock EW Kit.
Decided to do something a little different with this one compared to my last ones, gonna try doing the good old spray paint way, also, before you get worried I hollowed out the connectors for all the parts so I can take them apart as needed, basically think of it as test fitting. I’m gonna go with a primarily Blue/Dark Blue with Red Accents.

Yup, the bulk of the work is complete, just have to work on the weapons/equipment, luckily I have all the right ones to gear it up just as it’s found in the Armored Core 4 Intro! Admittedly, it’s teh totally wrong color, but where’s the fun otherwise!?! xD

About

Hey everybody, my name is Michael, and I'm here to realize ideas, my own and hopefully, those of others as well.

I am planning to use a CNC Mill to create Aluminum Molds, which I will inject with a variety of Plastics to produce Prototypes/Products, with Popular items potencially seeing Mass Production!

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut until I get that far, you'll have to put up with my Mecha obsession, model Kit painting and more! xD
